The Tri-Village Garden Club was formed in 1997 to fill the need for a garden club in the villages of Bartlett, Hanover Park, and Streamwood, Illinois. We are a member of the Garden Clubs of Illinois and the National Garden Clubs.

We invite you to join us and meet new friends who share your passion for gardening. We hire speakers throughout the year who talk on a variety of subjects, such as general gardening tips, flower arranging, photography in the garden, planting fall bulbs, raising Monarch butterflies, native plants and composting. On occasion, our members participate in craft projects during our monthly meeting. Our annual membership is $18.00.

We also share comradeship by taking field trips to local nurseries, garden walks, shows and other special events. We enjoy our members’ gardens during our annual members’ only garden walk.

HISTORY

Our Beginnings

In 1997, Valerie Howells moved to Streamwood, IL and being an avid gardener, she wanted to join a garden club. After checking the surrounding villages, she realized that there were none in the area. Wanting that connection with other people who loved to garden, she contacted the Garden Clubs of Illinois, and with their guidance she founded the Tri-Village Garden Club which encompasses the villages of Bartlett, Hanover Park and Streamwood. The first meeting of the new club was in October 1997 and many who attended are still active.

What we do

Our club meets on the third Wednesday of the month. Our meetings are held at the Poplar Creek Library, 1405 S Park Ave, Streamwood at 7:00 PM. We have speakers at least eight times a year who present a wide variety of topics that cover all possible subjects that would be of interest to a gardener.

Some of our topics include:

  • Environmental Concerns
  • Flower Arranging
  • Horticulture
  • Landscape Design
  • Native Plants and Wildlife

Annual Dues are $18.00.

Community Service

In addition to our other commitments, new community projects that were undertaken in 2016 were:

  1. Planted a new garden bed at the Bartlett Public Library.
  2. Planted containers at the entrance of Arts in Bartlett.
  3. Maintained a garden bed at Poplar Creek Library.
  4. Participated in a joint program with Arts in Bartlett, the area arts council, with garden photographs and plants in unique containers.
  5. Participated in the Window Box Competition during the Annual Chicago Flower and Garden Show. This was the first time our club entered and we are thrilled to announce that our window box entry placed second among the other garden clubs.

Our members also plant and maintain gardens at

  • Ralf Woods in Streamwood
  • Bartlett Park District

In addition, our members have created planters at the Claremont Rehabilitation Center and maintained the gardens at Victory Center, an assisted living facility in Bartlett. We also offer an annual horticultural program for residents at one of the three area senior facilities.
