AFFILIATE OF GARDEN CLUBS OF ILLINOIS AND NATIONAL GARDEN CLUBS
The Tri-Village Garden Club was formed in 1997 to fill the need for a garden club in the villages of Bartlett, Hanover Park, and Streamwood, Illinois. We are a member of the Garden Clubs of Illinois and the National Garden Clubs.
We invite you to join us and meet new friends who share your passion for gardening. We hire speakers throughout the year who talk on a variety of subjects, such as general gardening tips, flower arranging, photography in the garden, planting fall bulbs, raising Monarch butterflies, native plants and composting. On occasion, our members participate in craft projects during our monthly meeting. Our annual membership is $18.00.
We also share comradeship by taking field trips to local nurseries, garden walks, shows and other special events. We enjoy our members’ gardens during our annual members’ only garden walk.
HISTORY
Our Beginnings
In 1997, Valerie Howells moved to Streamwood, IL and being an avid gardener, she wanted to join a garden club. After checking the surrounding villages, she realized that there were none in the area. Wanting that connection with other people who loved to garden, she contacted the Garden Clubs of Illinois, and with their guidance she founded the Tri-Village Garden Club which encompasses the villages of Bartlett, Hanover Park and Streamwood. The first meeting of the new club was in October 1997 and many who attended are still active.
What we do
Our club meets on the third Wednesday of the month. Our meetings are held at the Poplar Creek Library, 1405 S Park Ave, Streamwood at 7:00 PM. We have speakers at least eight times a year who present a wide variety of topics that cover all possible subjects that would be of interest to a gardener.
Some of our topics include:
- Landscape Design
- Environmental Concerns
- Soil
- Horticulture
- Native Plants and Wildlife
- Birds and Bees and other Pollenators

Donations
- November 2, 2016 $500 donation towards scholarships to We Grow Dreams. The mission of this organization is to provide people with disabilities the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives and to train and work in a supportive, safe and caring environment while producing and providing products and services to the community. Their job-training program provides opportunities for individuals (team members) with disabilities to learn a variety of tasks in the day-to-day operation of a wholesale and retail greenhouse business. The mission of this organization fits our Club’s criteria for this donation. The money will be used in part to offer scholarships to some of their team members who are not able to pay the minimum tuition that is charged for this training.
- November 16, 2016 $100 donation to the Hanover Township Food Pantry. Every year a member of our community in Bartlett allows us to hold our Annual Plant Sale on the grounds of his retail store. He does not charge us and instead asks that we make a donation to the Hanover Township Food Pantry.
- August 8, 2017 $750 donation to We Grow Dreams. This donation was made with the proceeds of our Benefit Garden Walk.
